Helping an organization grow through M&A
After successful stints as a finance consultant with E&Y and PwC, he joined CACI, an NYSE-traded IT services contractor primarily serving defense and intelligence agencies of the U.S. federal government, to lead the company’s M&A program and provide strategic finance expertise.
While reporting to the CFO, he significantly enhanced the company’s capabilities and led the deal process for five acquisitions worth $400M, one divestiture of $20M of revenue, and a $300M convertible debt financing.

Driving Digital Transformation
I joined Dex Media to help transform the print-directory company into a multi-platform local marketing services provider. While there, I was instrumental in acquisition, divestiture, and capital structure initiatives, including a Ch. 11 restructuring of Dex’s $9.5 billion debt portfolio.
I collaborated with executive leadership to improve unit economics, enhance digital capabilities, expand the product suite, and reconfigure channels and go to market, leading to annual digital growth of more than 30%. This culminated in a merger-of-equals with SuperMedia to form NASDAQ-listed Dex Media.
The complex deal scaled the digital business to $500M, drove $175M of synergies, and provided the catalyst to amend and extend $3.4 billion of debt through an innovative Ch. 11 process where equity-holder interests were preserved.

Managing Growth to Acquisition
MaxPoint was a post-startup, growth stage advertising technology solutions provider when Tad joined in 2014 to lead strategic initiatives focused on innovation, organizational growth, and 3rd party partnerships.
While there, he sourced, negotiated, and managed 15+ data, channel, and technology partnerships that drove innovation and revenue growth. He served as an internal subject matter expert on the company’s extensive big data assets and partnerships. And he developed MaxPoint’s internal M&A capabilities, sourced domestic and international deals, and led opportunity evaluation.
These efforts contributed to the company’s $120M acquisition by Valassis Digital in October 2017.

Entrepreneurial Transformation
After leaving MaxPoint, I sought to apply my strategic finance capabilities and entrepreneurial interests to develop a portfolio of income-producing real estate and business assets. I identified an under-utilized and poorly maintained commercial retail center at a desirable intersection in north Durham.
I developed a plan to acquire and re-develop the property, adding an upscale laundromat to serve the local community and provide incremental rents and cash flow from the project. I negotiated deals with the owner and existing tenants, raised capital, and executed the project throughout 2019.
I significantly increased the value of the property and now operates the cleanest, fastest, most technology forward laundromat in Durham, serving retail and commercial clients.


Ongoing Advisory Services
Concurrent with these local business investments, I'm leveraging his professional background to provide strategic finance and business development advisory services to early and growth stage organizations. For example, I recently supported an early-stage specialty finance provider as it prepared for its next stage of growth and development.
This included detailed modeling of its existing loan portfolio and the associated financial outcomes, valuation work on that loan portfolio, development of positioning and presentation materials to help monetize the portfolio, identification of ongoing refinements to the business model, and preparation towards raising capital for Phase II lending activities. This engagement is ongoing and the company is well-positioned for continued development.
